Michael A Rosenhouse

I was born in Chicago and grew up in Highland Park, Illinois, playing tennis, studying hard, and getting a ham radio license among various extra-curricular activities. I received a B.A. from Yale University, majoring in history, and then joined the Navy for three years before returning home to earn a J.D. at the University of Chicago Law School.

At Yale, I majored in history, spent a summer in Paris, reported, wrote, and edited for the Yale Daily News, and learned how to play squash. In the Navy, I served as a junior officer on the USS Forrestal, an aircraft carrier with a storied history (the famous fire was before my time). At Chicago, my teammate and I won the second-year moot court competition. During my higher education years, I also had a summer gig as a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times and served occasionally as a stringer for Newsweek magazine.

After graduating from U of C and spending a few years in private practice in Chicago, I relocated to Rochester, New York, in 1980, and have since been actively engaged in both legal practice and legal publishing. Rochester is the home of Lawyers Cooperative Publishing Company, where I served as Managing Editor of two of its best-known national publications and for which I’ve authored two practice books.

The beautiful Rochester/Finger Lakes area reminds me a little of south central Wisconsin and has been a very nice place to practice and to live with my family. I’ve been active in the local bar association and in the Jewish community. I returned to ham radio a few years ago -- no, it’s not obsolete.

I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing, and I like people. I’m grateful that I've been able to use my skills to protect the legal rights of others.
